Extracts solutions from 1 to k factors using principal component analysis (PCA), exploratory factor analysis (EFA), or exploratory structural equation modeling (ESEM) engines. It then describes the hierarchy through the correlations between the factor scores of different levels. It computes them with linear algebra from the scoring weights and the correlation matrix the fit uses, so they are exact for that matrix. Waller (2007) showed, for principal components, that these correlations follow from the correlation matrix alone. Includes the Forbes (2023) extension for redundancy pruning and all-levels cross-correlations. authors: - family-names: Girard given-names: Jeffrey M. email: me@jmgirard.com orcid: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7359-3746 preferred-citation: type: manual title: 'ackwards: Bass-Ackwards Hierarchical Structural Analysis' authors: - family-names: Girard given-names: Jeffrey M. orcid: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7359-3746 email: me@jmgirard.com year: '2026' notes: R package version 0.2.0.9000 url: https://github.com/jmgirard/ackwards repository: https://jmgirard.r-universe.dev repository-code: https://github.com/jmgirard/ackwards commit: 51368d3c5ac1ffb8d1cbb00e53d053f92ae7f8ab url: https://jmgirard.github.io/ackwards/ date-released: '2026-10-06' contact: - family-names: Girard given-names: Jeffrey M. email: me@jmgirard.com orcid: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7359-3746
